Girl Scout develops project to help people respectfully retire American flags

After doing some research about how she might help area residents properly retire American flags, Emma began raising money to purchase two sturdy drop-boxes — safe, convenient locations where people could drop off their aging flags for later pickup and disposal.

Emma placed one box at VFW Post 97, 5350 S. Union Ave. The second box is expected to be installed Friday at the American Legion, 130 Goodman St. in east Bakersfield.
